About Caya

Cayascorner.com was born out of a passion by Caya (or better known as Carissa) to help local families.  While originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Carissa and her family relocated to the Philippines at a former US Air Force Base in Clark Pampanga. Carissa noticed the extreme poverty levels many of the locals faced, lacking even just the basic necessities such as proper nutrition and clothing.  She became frustrated at constantly seeing the despair day after day and naturally, she took matters into our own hands, and learned of various organizations that are trying to make a difference. Carissa along with a few other passionate classmates volunteered at local orphanages, tutoring abandoned and at risk orphans and held fundraising activities such as bake sales and canned food drives.  These activities led Carissa to think outside the box and she decided to help provide opportunities for these families to earn a living. This is in where the idea of Cayascorner.com was born!!

Some of the products created are hand made by the local residents in the area and are providing opportunities to be able to lift their families out of poverty with the skills and opportunities given by Cayas Corner.  A portion of the proceeds from each sale goes to these families as well as other organizations Carissa has vetted in where she has found they are making a true difference.
